Mark Smith Farms

About Our Family

We are Mark & Susan Smith and operate a farm in West Central Indiana. We met showing sheep at the Indiana State Fair. Breeding & showing livestock has been a big part of our lives since our early 4-H days.

We have 2 children, Kyle, an engineer for General Motors, resides in Royal Oak, MI. Our daughter, Kelly Gentry, is a special assistant in the soil division of the Indiana Department of Agriculture. Kelly and her husband, Josh, live in Indianapolis. Josh is a sales rep for Tremco Roofing. He is a farm boy from Jasper county and grew up showing livestock in 4-H. Both Kyle and Kelly literally grew up in a show ring showing swine and sheep. As children they thought a family vacation meant hooking the truck up to the trailer and gong to a show or sale somewhere around the country. Kyle still remains active in the farm by designing & maintaining this web site. Kelly and Josh are often called upon to help on the farm and help at the shows.

Susan is a Trust Officer at Community Trust & Investment Company, where her flexable work schedule allows her time to travel to shows. Her years of experience in grooming and showing have proven quite useful during the show season.

Mark does most of the daily work and management of the farm. To take a break from the farm Mark is a Level 3 ALSA Llama judge and has also enjoyed judging state and national Southdown sheep shows. Mark is currently the Vice President of the International Llama Registry, and has been a past board member and president of the American Southdown Breeders Assn. He's also served as an officer and member of the board of directors of ALSA. Mark was also a member of Class VII Indiana Ag Leadership Program and has served on the Agriculture Advisory committee for 3 U.S. Congressmen.

Mark and Susan enjoy being involved in their church as well as staying active in community organizations such as 4-H and Indiana Farm Bureau. Susan also serves on the Montgomery County Community Foundation Board of Directors.

We are happy that you stopped by for a visit.

About Our Farm

We both came from a long line of farmers and continue that family tradition. We have a 1,400 acre corn and soybean farm north of Crawfordsville, Indiana. We disbursed our swine and purebred Southdown sheep flock several years ago to concentrate on our llama operation. In the summer of 2002 we designed and constructed our new show barn for the llamas.

We’ve long been know as breeders of quality livestock. With 33 years in the Southdown sheep business we raised and exhibited many national show & sale champions.

We have always strived to produce livestock with extraordinary style and eye appeal, but still keeping in mind that they need to be conformationally correct and functional. That tradition continues today with our llamas. As you look at the males and females we have posted on these pages we think that you will agree.
